Protect and Server Driving Academy is pleased to announce our Defensive Driving course. Whether you are a newly licensed driver or a veteran adult driver our CRASH course will take you to another level of improving and developing your overall skills and confidence as a driver.

The Defensive Driving course is an intensive, hands-on driving course instructed by our experience instructors that will instruct you in proper driving skills and techniques in controlling you vehicle, vehicle recovery techniques, developing a positive attitude as a driver, safety skills to make you better both mentally and defensively, and finally, identifying and understanding what a hazard is to you as a driver and how to avoid hazardous situations.You, as a student, will drive a similar training course that police officers drive in their training such as:
  • Emergency lane changes
  • Steering techniques
  • Hazard identification
  • Vehicle maneuvering, low speed and moderate speed
  • Emergency braking techniques
  • Understanding centrifugal forces

Required Materials

Students are to provide their own vehicles for the course

  • Signed liability waiver by student

Course Description

This course will focus on developing appropriate defensive driving skills using physical, cognitive, and mental skills as taught by the instructors. This course is designed to provide the student with the foundations of vehicle dynamics, vehicle control and vehicle limitations and utilize this learned knowledge in overall safe driving abilities. This course is designed for forward and reverse driving scenarios.

  • Steering techniques

  • Compensation techniques
  • Braking techniques
Attitude:
  • Achieve confidence in physically handling the vehicle
  • Obtain mental confidence in your ability to handle a vehicle in an emergency situation
  • Confidence in your ability to handle a vehicle in an emergency situation
Safety:
  • Becoming a safe driver
  • Becoming a defensive thinker
  • Becoming and safe vehicle owner
Hazards:
  • Identifying hazards
  • Scanning techniques to alleviate potential hazards
  • Improving reaction times to hazards
Learning Goals and Assessments
  • Proper braking techniques ABS vs. non-ABS
  • Driver reaction times to obstructions and road conditions in real time
  • Close obstacle driving and parking
  • Torque and horsepower
  • Steering techniques
  • Sudden stopping drills
  • Low speed awareness and cognitive skills
  • Proper vehicle controlling
  • Speed lane changes and vehicle dynamics
TestingEach student will demonstrate to the instructor their safe driving skills through actual application of learned driving skills by driving the course after practice in both reverse and forward driving.Classroom rules of conduct
  • Cell phones will not be turned on and secure in a safe place
  • Students will dress appropriately for driving (no sandals or flip-flops)
  • No obstructive clothing or apparel
Students will be given a safety lecture and expectations on conduct from the instructors. Any student deemed to be unsafe and non- attentive will be dismissed from the class. The cost of the class will not be refundable.
